I’m falling in love with birds
My version of “Netflix and chill” is finding something chocolate and turning on nature videos. I’ve recently started to make my way through the PBS Nature series. I’m a rather discerning nature video watcher. I don’t like when the storylines are dramatized by overworked editing. I also want to feel like I’m getting new information out of it, not just repurposed footage. When I stumbled across an episode about owls, I was blown away and now I’m falling in love with birds!
How could it be that I know so little about such an amazing, common animal? The most amazing thing I learned was that owls are totally silent. See for yourself:
I also recently watched something about Ravens and learned that they mate for life. I’m a sucker for factoids so when an article from NPR was circulating on facebook promising to answer this question: “Where do the Seattle-area crows go at night?“, I was hooked. No matter where you live, if you have crows in your area, this information could be fascinating to you.
It might be silly but it makes me really happy to get a micro-dose of knowledge about something very common. Maybe someday I’ll be able to pass that information along and make someone else’s day!
