F*ck That: a guided meditation
If that new age, hippie sh*t doesn’t speak to you, maybe this guided meditation will.
People think that meditation is about wiping the mind clear of all thoughts. That you’re doing it wrong if you think at all. Well, that’s just not the case. Our minds are always moving, faster than we can ever keep track of. Meditation is about watching the mind, seeing what pops up without latching on to the thoughts. It’s about focusing intently on one thing and constantly bringing yourself back to that concentrated point.
A great metaphor for meditation is to think of yourself as a rock on the bottom of a river. Your thoughts are the water that’s constantly passing over you. When you get caught up in the stream, the water pulls you away from the calmness of the bottom and throws you over the waterfall. When you realize you’ve gone for a ride, settle back to the bottom and allow the water to pass over you. As the current flows you’ll be pushed and pulled around but over time you’ll find your ways to keep the water from affecting you so strongly.
Simply watch the thoughts pass by, focus on your breath or find your mantra – even if your mantra is “f*ck that.”
