Badass Millennial: Misty Copeland
Most people know who the badass Misty Copeland is but if you don’t, you should.
Misty embodies success amidst adversity. Ballet isn’t known for it’s diverse array of dancers. It’s one of the most grueling and destructive career paths with it’s narrow view of what a dancer should look like and where they should come from. Miss Misty shattered expectations and has reached new highs, representing those who strive for success though their genetic luck might work against them.
Misty came from rough beginnings and discovered her passion at the age of 13 at a Boys and Girls Club. As an African-American woman, she moved with such undeniable grace and fluidity that she was granted a scholarship. It was an opportunity to escape her family life and explore a form of true self-expression.
Over the last 19 years she’s defied odds and stuck it to close-minded people who doubted her potential. She has just been promoted to Principle Dancer at the American Ballet Theater in New York City, putting her at the top of the mountain.
As the author of 2 books, one for adults and one for children, she shares her story and inspires others to take flight on their own true path.
She is a badass. Go Misty, go!
